DCD796 (Hammer Drill. Brushless)
DCD708 (Atomic Drill. Brushless. DO NOT BUY THIS ONE!)

DCB115 Charger
DCB205 5.0Ah Battery

I found out this DCD791 with a 5Ah battery and DCB112 charger kit is on sale for $129 and I immediately ordered it online to replace my DCD796, which is longer and slightly heavier. This is my unboxing, review and drilling test (including charger wattage testing with kill-a-watt power meter) Also you will see how weak the DCD708 “Atomic” drill is.

  1. Hi, just bought the 708 model, I can tell you with a 5ah battery it has enough power. The 791 has a lovely metal chuck and more power, but it is about +60% more expensive (N-XJ pack). It is strange that the 708 is not branded as „atomic" here in Europe.

  2. I agree with you on the 708. My 777 is more powerful than the 708, even though they have the same specs.

  3. Hi, thanks for the video. I was wondering if there is a difference between the DEWALT DCD791D2 vs. DEWALT DCD791P2 ?

  4. I have the DCD791 and i have to be honest. This is the first "Top of the Line" drill/ driver i've ever had. So, i don't have any other drills other than a cheap wal mart Hyper Tough to compare it to. But, after watching these videos, i think i made the right choice in the 791.

  5. Hi. I have a dcd791 too, new. The reverse/forward button is very loose/sloppy. Did yours have the same issue, or no? Does it matter? How can I repair it? Thanks.

  6. Is it good for drilling through concrete?

  7. I liked your video. Why so many drills if you don’t use the the heavy duty drills for heavy projects.

  8. I feel like the atomic is not good for building but in my opinion it good for electrical work.

  9. Even drilling in wood with the hammer mode it still sounds like you drilling in to concrete.

  10. I appreciate your opinion, but I hate it when someone doing a youtube review says don't buy this! There are many people who have different needs than you, and I personally own the atomic drill and impact set, with no complaints. I also have the 796B hammer drill, and I am getting the 791. The plastic chuck is not plastic inside on the atomic. Use a tool properly and you will get good results on any brand. Not every tool was built to do heavy jobs. Just like the guys buying diesel trucks but never haul anything, its all for show if you don't use it. But hey, its your money, buy what you want. That's why I hate it when you say don't buy this. Other than that, good video, nice comparison.

  11. I love my atomic hammer drill plastic and all. I use the dcd791 shown in video for my regular drill. I have an 885, 850, and 887 impact drivers which I LOVE all three. Even the brushed 885. The 850 is my favorite but the 887 is a powerhouse. Man I love dewalt

  12. I have the 791 lasted 3 months before the chuck started having seizing issues. Put up with it for 3 more months. Bought a dewalt replacement chuck. Welp wouldn't you know it. You have to field strip the entire drill to change the chuck. After making sure I didn't lose all the gears and pins I reassembled the drill lasted 5 minutes before changing the gearing, now its stuck in low gear. Have to take apart again. Build quality isn't great for their top of the line and I shouldn't have to bring it in to be service to change the chuck. Built in obsolescence in the design. Won'r support a company that does this. Bad enough you have to buy a new platform every 10 years and half that time on the batteries. Moved over to Makita with a nice sale on at HD. Smoother transmission,=less wear, solid Japanese made chuck, all around very nicely made tool. For smaller hands it feels better to grip as well. Will try again to fix the 791, but if I don't get it to work I have a battery convertor on order to use dewalt batteries on my Makita. Might be taller but its worth it on these smaller profile drills with so far better build quality. At least the makita has made it past 5 months. Sad because the XR is the best Dewalt makes.

  14. Your video production is on point. Love the fast zoom action on your cam lol. Just bought the $129 drill combo and another $129 combo for impact driver. This video is helpful. Thanks!

  15. Is the DCD791 drill/driver a hammer drill as well? Thanks.

  16. Nice vid!👍🏻 I also have the DCD 791. Tremendously powerful drill for its size!

  17. Buen taladro, aunque prefiero el que trae el combo de 500 dólares por la función de rotomartillo

  18. I just bought this drill a few months ago with the impact driver combo. I haven't used it yet, but I already love them both. I've got some house projects coming up….installing a peep-hole in my front door, installing a shower door in the bathroom, and undercabinet lights in my kitchen, so it will be a good test for both of them.

  19. nice vid! did you see you can pick up the 791 for $106.50 includes a 5ah battery and charger/bag?

  20. Is faster charging really better? I suppose, if you only own 1 battery, and are recharging to finish a job. But…..the caveat is….charging slower is actually better for your battery, and will lead to longer overall battery life.

  21. No love for the Atomic? 🤔 They are not all that bad. I think DeWalt could have spent a little more time, and really knocked it out of the park. I see You like the 5.0 amp hour batteries. I think they are a solid battery, and along with the newer XR 6.0, are some of the best DeWalt has to offer. I DO NOT like the newer XR 3.0 batteries. Haven’t had any experience with the new 4.0 yet.  The newer two stage chargers are winners, IMO. I have and use the 6amp model, and it is a medium to fast charger, and doesn’t heat the batteries up too much. With the dual stage, I can take the battery off when it is at about 80% charged. I do this at times, as I have read it is better for the batteries. Varied use and charge rates are the key. Fast charge sometimes, and a slower charge at other times. YMMV. Stay safe and Healthy! Peace! 👍😁🇺🇸

  22. Can this drill be used for concrete? I live in a semi detached and have a shared concrete wall. Thanks!

  23. Just a question. As an farm owner I have quite a few wooden repairs to do over the year. I am choosing between the DCD796P2 (2x5Ah) and the DCD791D2(2x2Ah). I have only this battery pacs available in my country. Can you help me with my decision, thank you

  24. Awesome vid showing the differences…Loved the break down of the chargers…have not seen that yet and learned something new today. Maybe a short vid on how you modified that camera set up…that looks sweet…

  25. Very nice review – I just purchased. Thanks a bunch!

  26. I have both 708 and 701. I can say that the 708 has a much softer clutch (a ring with numbers 1, 2, 3, etc on it) at the initial values and it is much better for small fasteners. And why are you drilling in the not drilling mode?

  27. I can't understand the hate on the 708 ! I have one and it is excellent, I use it all day hanging doors or drilling decks etc with 5 amp battery. Nice and light to hang on belt .As for power ,I tried it on a 14 x 600 mm auger bit i seasoned hardwood in first gear and it powered through it ,wtf more do you want from a compact drill ?

  28. No the Atomic chuck is not all plastic !!! Only the outer chuck which doesn't matter at all as it helps keep the weight down .

  29. Hello,
may you give me your advice about what drill should i buy for my home only?
actually im watching alot video but still dont know what should i choose and what the best and not heavy and strong with great battery long live!!

    Thanks

  30. So no real reason not to buy the DCD708. It’s half the price. For a DIY at home I think it’s fine.

  31. I am looking for a drill that can cut tin quite well. I dont do much drilling either, sometimes I also stack them up too. Tried dcd777 it does pretty good job, but wonder if i should get dcd791 instead

  32. I didn't now Ross David Shwimmer did tool reviews

  33. i bought the dcd791p2 after watching your video, it was awesome!

  34. I kinda wish dewalt makes atomic cheaper as much brushed dewalt should be, biggest regret, get the best they make, it’ll pay off long run

  35. dcd708 – 1650 rpm
    dcd791 – 2000 rpm
Don't you think that from the specifications it immediately becomes clear who has the faster?
