Nuclear diamond batteries are made from nanodiamonds, tiny crystals that are created from nuclear waste. Nuclear waste is a huge problem: it’s radioactive, dangerous and takes thousands of years to decay. But what if we could turn it into something useful? That’s what the inventors of the nanodiamond battery have done. They have found a way to use the energy released by the nuclear waste to power the nanodiamonds, which then generate electricity. The result is a battery that can last for 28,000 years, without needing to be recharged or replaced.

  1. There that crap right there. Another way to try to convince people that nuclear plants are "safe". I know from life that corporation ALWAYS cut costs corners. Isn't it it cheaper to build the diamond with a thorium isotope/uranium isotope, then excite them with lasers? instead of risking the handling of already "radioactive material" and paying the workers a tons of money that will offset the profits? if yes, then Voila. Nuclear waste won't be used, it will be creating the battery will always create unusable radioactive waste. will the batteries be recyclable when the device/car/sensor break before the battery? how about it creating the perfect weapon by terrorist/criminals? do we want nuclear power at the hands of the local man?

  2. Except special cases, better to make large scale nuclear waste stations converting it to electricity in controlled enviroment like inside a nuclear powerplant..

  3. FAKE!!!!! This is just Chinese bullsh*t. This battery does NOT exist!

  4. They could refine nuclear waste and could do it multiple times. Other countries do it nothing new. In the U.S. Jimmy Carter opposed this policy in his administration. After use it multiple times it has a shorter half life.

  5. Voyager has a nuclear battery….still going last I heard!

  6. lol I thought so. *UPDATE* its bogus, and the NDB company pushing technology was busted by Securities Exchange Commission. Currently being investigated for financial fraud.

  7. About time Elon, i have been waiting for some one to bring it into production.

    The lithium isn't working.

    Reality changer.

Now your electric cars became a real success.
    I hope they are safe

  8. Can a nuclear battery explode causing damage from a one ton TNT explosion?

  9. Elon Musk who, he did not make it its know about before he was born

  10. been following this for 3 years now adn the only thing slowing it down is the Govt's unwellness to give as much money to its researching as they did and still are to lithium based researchers. We will never make Lithium– the little brother to nuclear waste SAFE. This could be the beginning of us actually realizing out species as Star Travelers, lithium will not. And I think Elon knows this too and does not have to beg teh govt for research money!

  11. This will kill the fossil fuel industry in a year or less.

  12. Don't waste your time on this video and just go to wiki to article about diamond batteries to learn at least something. It is usual nonrechargable battery, with power density similar to watch batteries. 90% claims in video are lie and misleading.

  13. NDB batteries had nothing to do with Elon Musk, its funny how everyone use him to attract trafic. Its a indications that channel could be full of lies

  14. it sounds tasty i wonder what will happen if i tear it open and eat its content

  15. Their theory is entirely sound and uses physics understood since the beginning of the 1900s, but with a more modern method of harvesting the radioactivity into electric charge.
I heard about this a few years ago. Glad to see Elon is following it too. Maybe he can partner with them and help them to accelerate the process of development. It is a sound idea. Its only a matter of engineering and whether they are able to get the efficiency of the system up to the level required.
Getting the supercapacitors up to a high capacity will make a giant difference too. EV cars have times where they are just sitting which will allow the radioactivity to recharge the system if it isn't under load.

  16. id be asking cost of raw materials to get them out the ground ,the cost in power to build them and how much polution will it create makeing them

  17. Someone will start marketing these "diamonds" as wedding rings. Have some nuclear waste, honey.

  18. Japan, China also can try for it very fast invention…

  19. I hate the Elon Musk name drops. Man only has visions and nothing else, also have of his visions are just him talking about an interesting idea someone else had. Why is his mention needed here?

  20. why use nuclear for watches when you already have better options? use nuclear to deliver energy for our minimum use of energy, so nothing is wasted.

  21. This reminds me of Terminator T-800's powercell. Imagine creating a robot with this Nuclear Diamond Battery. Now imagine we have the technology to transfer our mind to that robot powered with Nuclear Diamond Battery.

  22. You have no idea…
Try al and error paves the way
    Peace to all mankind

  23. What if these batteries explode or catch fire, do they spread radiation ( nuclear)?

  24. People will believe anything 😂😂😂

  25. the NDB isnt powerful enough for a car, it can however be used on a stationary large scale power generating plant. imagine using nuclear waste from a conventional nuclear power plant to power a town or city.

  26. I think I saw this on an episode of Star Trek were the Voyager hooked up with an alien spacecraft powered by nuclear batteries it called itself v'ger !

  27. The vapor chemical deprivation make thin layers, the stacking of layers could be done in a printing fashion.. this allowing for more yield of battery. Since they are nano particles..

  28. Clearly fake to create false expectation for the future.

  29. Elon Musk did not make this battery this was made by real scientists and not a joker wannabe. I don't know why you want to make this man smarter than he is but I guess you are uncomfortable that he's an idiot.

  30. Imagination is More important than Reality. Keep it Going

  31. nuclear power in a car battery would be great we should develope it in all areas were it can be locked init would be great way to put waiste to good work it would last a long time never having to wory about power

  32. nuclear waste is radioactive. what is the shielding required for such a battery when you want to implant it in a human body?

  33. Providing it satisfies all safety issues including mechanical damage in extreme circumstances the why not, particularly if it uses nuclear waste.

  34. We don't need to put nuclear batteries in cars. We can put them or thermal nuclear generators in sealed units at gas stations to make hydrogen fuel at the point of sale. With safe metallic salt vehicle storage tanks we can create cars safer than gasoline that exhaust water. We have had the technology for many decades.

  35. Nuclear battery good … fusion battery … and solar lack …
